Orange Release Cheaper Mini SIM Cards
Orange Mini SIM Cards
Orange the mobile giant have announced that it has become the first European mobile operator to introduce mini SIM cards. An introduction aimed at reducing the amount of waste produced when customers receive new SIMs for an upgrade or with a new contract mobile phone.
The SIM card itself is still the same size. But the plastic around the card has been halved. Before just 10% of the actual plastic was used and the other 90% just thrown away. It's expected the halved mini SIMs will have a huge help in reducing plastic waste. More than 2.9 billion SIM cards weighing 11,600 tonnes were shipped to mobile operators across the globe in 2008 alone. The mini SIM cards commence with selected pay monthly customers and in the future will be extended to cover all new SIMs. SIM card providers such as Gemalto, Sagem Orga and Oberthur Technologies are supplying Orange with the mini SIM cards.
- Mini SIM cards halve the amount of waste used.
- Trial launched to select paymonthly customers only for now.
- Plans to extend mini SIM cards to all new Orange customers in future.
